Alpha version - ChoiceFlow is in active development. This guide is based on the current repository code and should be updated whenever systems, balance, or content change.

This guide summarizes the main systems players interact with. Some details, such as tournament schedules, market prices, and city conditions, can change during play.

Personality

ChoiceFlow uses six unified personalities: Ambitious, Charming, Intellectual, Creative, Disciplined, and Adventurous. Personality affects skill modifiers, NPC interaction modifiers, compatibility, and some generated scenes.

Personality bonuses are not a separate career system. They modify how well a character fits certain skills, actions, or relationship dynamics.

Health is a stat, not a leveling skill.

XP Curve

Skills use an exponential XP curve, so early levels come quickly and higher levels take much more dedication.

Activity Performance

Activities can fail, land below average, succeed normally, or perform excellently.

Age protection matters:

  • Ages 0-2: baby activities cannot fail.
  • Ages 3-7: failure is capped very low.
  • Ages 8-12: reduced failure and no adult skill penalty.
  • Ages 13-17: teen failure rules with reduced penalties.
  • Ages 18+: full activity outcome system.

After two consecutive failures, the next activity is protected from failure.

Diminishing Returns

Repeating the same activity reduces XP. Babies are exempt. Children, teens, and adults have progressively stricter repeat penalties. Adults can drop as low as 10% XP from extreme repetition.

Variety helps. Trying different activities can grant a +15% variety bonus, capped by the activity system.

There are 83 player-selectable activities, each with its own age rules, energy cost, XP rewards, and possible cash rewards.

Important Current Additions

The guide previously missed or understated these current activities:

  • Work Analytics exists for active business owners.
  • Private Chef Dinner, Celebrity Networking, and Private Island Retreat exist as gated/elite activities.
  • Dog Walking starts at age 14 and Lawn Care starts at age 15.
  • Pet Sitting and Babysitting can start before adulthood.
  • Crime activities are live, not just planned.

Activity Requirements

Some activities require items or conditions. Examples:

  • Reading needs books or a library card.
  • Social Meetups needs a phone to coordinate events.
  • Creative Projects need art supplies, a musical instrument, or a computer.
  • Freelance Projects need a computer.
  • Coding activities need a phone/computer or computer, depending on the activity.
  • Gated elite activities require specific wealth, fame, items, friends, careers, or skill levels.

Education

Education covers K-12 schooling, private school options, scholarships, and higher education programs.

Interviews

The interview system uses:

  • 4 base questions
  • +1 question per career level above 1
  • +1 question per company tier above 1
  • minimum 4 questions, maximum 8
  • pass threshold of 60%

Modifiers include Charisma, role-relevant Intelligence for tech roles, education, reputation, and homelessness penalties.

Performance and Termination

New jobs start at 50% performance. Work quality changes performance. Skipping work can decay performance annually.

The warning threshold depends on reputation:

Championship belts exist for Rookie, Regional, National, and World divisions. Belt item values are $5,000, $15,000, $50,000, and $150,000 respectively, with increasing happiness, charisma, discipline, resilience, and fame effects.

Tennis

Tennis is now a leveling skill and has a dedicated sports career system with clubs, training, rivals, amateur events, tour progression, rankings, tournaments, match flow, income, seasons, and condition management.

Use the Tennis career screen for exact tournament and club state because those systems are season and ranking driven.

Business

Business ownership is a standalone system in the Career tab.

Your credit score affects account access, loan access, loan rates, and financial consequences.

Investing

Investing requires an internet-capable trading device. Current code accepts budget laptop, MacBook Pro, gaming PC, basic phone, premium smartphone, and smart watch.

Investments use live market prices. Starting prices seed the market, then stock and crypto prices continue evolving each year even if you do not currently own any holdings.

Annual returns are affected by market simulation, world events, economy, and the asset's risk settings.

Housing

Housing utilities distinguish rentals from owned property. Current recognized rental IDs are studio apartment, one bedroom, and two bedroom. Current owned property IDs include condo, townhouse, ranch house, colonial house, victorian house, luxury penthouse, modern mansion, and private estate.

The shop data defines prices, rent, maintenance, appreciation, and unlock requirements. Owned property contributes to net worth and can affect activity requirements.

Rental pet limits are enforced by the pet housing policy:

  • Studio: 1 pet
  • One bedroom: 2 pets
  • Two bedroom: 3 pets
  • Owned homes: no rental cap

Relationships

Relationships are tracked through social and family connections rather than a single simple friendship number.

Relationships use trust, affection, respect, and resentment to compute a relationship score. Some older helper code also tracks intimacy and relationship history for progression.

Romance Progression

Current romance stages include:

NPCs can initiate flirting, ask for dates, ask to become exclusive, hint at marriage, propose, ask about children, or initiate breakup depending on relationship stage and relationship score.

Romance checks block invalid relationships, including close family relationships, existing marriage conflicts, and underage marriage.

Marriage & Family

Marriage

Marriage requires both people to be eligible adults, legally available to marry, and not blocked by family relationship rules. Prenups are attached to the marriage.

Divorce

Divorce can include:

A prenup protects income, pension, and assets in the divorce flow.

Pregnancy and Children

Pregnancy and children currently support:

Crime money goes to the wallet.

At 150 police heat, the system starts a police investigation/raid flow and resets heat through the reputation system. The player can defend themselves instead of being automatically convicted.

At the 10th committed crime, the game can trigger a gang recruitment offer if the criminal career is not active.

Prison

Prison supports sentence serving, prison activities, inmates, prison gang systems, parole, riots, release handling, and isolation from normal systems while incarcerated.

Health

Health affects work, skill gains, illness risk, and death probability.

Medical systems include:

Doctor visits can improve health and reduce illness duration. Successful treatment can remove illness and improve health.

Low health increases the chance when health is below 50. A character also dies if health reaches 0 or they reach their effective max lifespan.

Energy

Activities cost energy. Low energy reduces work and skill effectiveness.

Current health display logic includes:

  • Tired: reduced skill gain and work performance
  • Healthy/energetic states can improve performance

Lifestyle choices affect health. Healthy diet can add +3 health per year; unhealthy diet can reduce health by 3 to 5 per year. Addictions and drug levels can lower health.

The game includes dog, cat, and companion pet systems.

Items can unlock activities, improve XP tiers, add maintenance costs, depreciate, and affect yearly costs.

Life Events

Events are action-triggered, age-triggered, relationship-triggered, school/career-triggered, health-triggered, crime-triggered, or annual summary items.

The event queue prioritizes critical events such as death, prison, eviction, inheritance, medical emergencies, and pet death above lower-priority summaries.

Narrative systems aim to reference current game state, including parents, jobs, housing, pets, pregnancy, relationships, prison, and life stage.

Tips & Strategy

Build Skills

  • Train varied activities to avoid diminishing returns.
  • Match personality, items, and activities where possible.
  • Use higher-tier activities only after meeting the real requirements.
  • Remember Tennis is now a skill.

Build Money

  • Education supports high-paying jobs, especially medicine and law.
  • Standard careers are stable and can provide benefits.
  • Business can scale but has overhead, competitors, staff, equipment, and bankruptcy risk.
  • Investing includes stocks, crypto, and real estate investments with live yearly market movement.
  • Crime can pay quickly but adds heat, records, raids, prison risk, and gang complications.

Build Relationships

  • Treat people well to build trust, affection, and respect. Hurtful choices can create resentment.
  • Interact regularly so relationships do not fade over time.
  • Close family members and unavailable partners cannot become valid romance options.
  • Prenups matter before marriage.
  • Custody and support decisions continue affecting family relationships.

Survive

  • Keep health above 50 where possible.
  • Treat illnesses and injuries.
  • Keep energy out of exhausted range.
  • Pay rent, loans, support, and business obligations.
  • Avoid stacking police heat unless you are ready for investigation and prison risk.
